What is a freeride competition?
It takes place on an ungroomed, rugged terrain where competitors freely choose their trajectory (line) from the start to the finish gate. There’s no timed run, no prescribed route; the entire descent is judged and scored.
Judges assign a final score out of 100 points based on specific criteria such as technique, style, fluidity, control, and line choice.
Given the nature of the terrain, safety is paramount, and professionals such as slope patrollers and explosives experts systematically check the stability of the snowpack before the competition. During the event, rescue teams are ready to provide swift and effective interventions with proper medical resources.
