Tignes: Helicopters at low altitude

Stay With us Resorts · June 2024

Safety objective

Between May 13 and June 13, helicopter flights at very low altitude are planned to detect and locate equipment showing failures or signs of wear. This falls within the framework of proactive annual surveillance of power lines.

These checks allow for the planning of replacement of faulty infrastructure (broken insulators, damaged poles, lines with cut strands, deformed supports, etc.).

Low altitude?

In aviation, low altitude refers to a flight height relatively close to the ground, typically between 30 and 300 meters (approximately 100 to 1,000 feet).

When it comes to flying over power lines by helicopter, this reduced altitude allows technicians to observe the necessary details to identify areas requiring maintenance.

Flying at this height provides a precise view of the infrastructure while ensuring the safety of the crew and the public.
