Tignes Lunar Ground?

Stay With us Resorts · February 2024

Space module on the lake

Since late January, Tignes has been playing in the cosmic universe by hosting, on the frozen shores of its lake, a rather unusual object: a space habitat.

It’s a serious experiment, as this lunar module prototype is part of the project to integrate a mission named Artemis* by NASA! Its manufacturing is French, and the module was designed by the Marseille-based startup Spartan Space.

*Artemis: Manned space program with the goal of landing a crew on the lunar surface by 2025.

Who is behind this installation in Tignes?

Alban Michon, of course, the famous explorer who has adopted Tignes, and vice versa, for almost 25 years!

The goal is to test the lunar module in mountain conditions, with all associated factors such as cold, ice, altitude, as a prelude to more extreme conditions.

Did you know that since 2020 there’s an explorer school in Tignes? Guess who opened it… yes, Alban Michon, an adventure enthusiast, a modern-day explorer, a conqueror of the useful—the list is long.

Thanks to these extraordinary individuals who transport us beyond the stars.

And you, what type of explorer do you embody?
